Auf einem schön dekorierten Tisch steht ein Glücksengel – er hat sich mit Botox die Lippen aufspritzen lassen. Auch auf dem Nachtkästchen sitzt gedankenverloren ein Engerl – im Niqap. Und ein männlicher Schutzengel liegt betrunken neben einer Flasche Johnny Walker.
“Heimsuchung” heißt die aktuelle Serie der international erfolgreichen Künstlerin Deborah Sengl: Engelsfiguren, die wir als Glücksbringer in unserem Heim aufstellen, entpuppen sich als genauso problembeladen, traurig oder egoistisch, wie wir selbst.
Gesellschaftsstrukturen und Phänomene unserer Zeit zu hinterfragen steht für Deborah Sengl im Zentrum ihrer Arbeit. In „Su- perfreaks“ nimmt sie sich jenen Menschen an, die im 19. Jahrhundert noch eine beliebte Jahrmarkts-Attraktion gewesen wären: Kleinwüchsige, Rumpfmenschen, die Frau mit Bart.
Für Sengl sind sie „gleichzeitig Helden und Antihelden, die einen einsamen Kampf gegen die Durchschnittlichkeit führen, weshalb wir sie sowohl bewundern wie auch bedauern. Und manchmal fürchten wir sie vielleicht sogar, weil sie uns bewusst machen können, wie unsichtbar wir in der feigen Einheitsmasse der Normalen sind.“
Die neuen Arbeiten von Deborah Sengl werden erstmals in Niederösterreich zu sehen sein.
