Der durchsichtige Schleier
Als ich als Kind den Islam-Unterricht besuchte, meinte mein Islam-Lehrer, ein Mann, muslimische Frauen müssten sich verschleiern, weil sie so kostbar wären. Einen Schatz würde man ja auch nicht allen herzeigen, sondern verstecken, argumentierte er. Schon mit acht Jahren fand ich dieses Argument nicht schlüssig. Ich wollte niemandes Schatz sein, ich wollte rausgehen und die Welt entdecken. Mädchen und Jungen waren für mich gleich, wieso sprach der Religionslehrer hier also nur von Mädchen? „Buben sind doch auch kostbar, wieso verschleiern die sich nicht?“, fragte ich meinen Lehrer damals. Er wechselte prompt das Thema.
Weil ich mit meinem Religionslehrer offensichtlich nicht gut klarkam, machte ich eine Pause vom Islam-Unterricht. Von da an predigte mir niemand mehr, was ich anziehen und wie ich mich als Mädchen verhalten sollte. Im Teenager-Alter änderte sich das auf einmal. Plötzlich fragten mich zwei männliche Klassenkollegen, die sich offen zur FPÖ bekannten, in einem sehr herablassenden Ton, wieso ich denn kein Kopftuch tragen würde, ich wäre ja schließlich Muslima. Tatsächlich musste ich mich in weiterer Folge in meinem Leben genau so oft vor ausländerfeindlichen Männern für meinen Kleidungs- oder Lebensstil rechtfertigen wie vor fundamentalistischen Muslimen. „Trinkst du keinen Alkohol, weil du Muslima bist?“, „Nimm das Schnitzel nicht, da ist Schwein drin!“, „Die Melisa brauchst du erst gar nicht zur Party einladen, die darf sicher nicht“ – nur ein Auszug der an mich adressierten Wortmeldungen. Sogar an der Uni ging das Ganze weiter: „Und dein Vater erlaubt dir echt zu studieren?“, „Musst du zuhause wohnen bis du heiratest?“. Diese diskriminierenden Fragen schränkten mich mehr ein als es mein Glaube je tat. Ich wurde reduziert. Auf den Islam und auf das Frau-Sein. Diese ganzen Fragen, die ich mir anhören musste, wurden meinen Cousins und männlichen muslimischen Freunden nie gestellt.
Die Frau als Aggressionsfläche
Auch in meinem Beruf als Journalistin fällt mir immer wieder auf, dass die muslimische Frau als Aggressionsfläche benutzt wird. Zeitungsartikel über Muslime werden fast immer mit kopftuchtragenden Frauen illustriert. Die muslimische Frau hat es mit dem Burka-Verbot sogar auf den obersten Rang politischer Agenden geschafft. Man kann von dem Burka-Verbot halten was man will, nur muss man sich schon fragen, wieso es wieder einmal Frauen sind, die zum Gegenstand einer Debatte gemacht werden. Wieso diskutiert man nicht auch über ein Salafisten-Bart –Verbot? Schließlich waren die meisten Terroristen männliche Salafisten, ihre Bärte habe mindestens dieselbe aufgeladene Bedeutung wie die Burka. Aber an Frauen lassen sich die Kämpfe austragen. Das ist in jeder patriarchalen Kultur das Gleiche.
Die Muslima, sie eignet sich besonders gut als Angriffsfläche und zwar für beide Seiten – patriarchal eingestellte Muslime und ausländerfeindliche Österreicher. Diese beiden Gruppen haben mehr gemein als ihnen lieb ist. Wenn der Ring freiheitlicher Jugend Steiermark ein Plakat veröffentlicht, auf dem fünf Frauen im Dirndl zu sehen sind mit dem Schriftzug „Finger weg! Unsere Frauen sind kein Freiwild“, dann geht es ihnen genau so wenig um den Schutz der Frauen wie meinem Religionslehrer, der Frauen als Schatz bezeichnete. Es geht ihnen um Machtdemonstration und um Politik. Frauen sind ihnen dabei egal.
Populisten und Extremisten
Die FPÖ ist immer ganz laut, wenn es um das Thema Unterdrückung der Frau im Islam geht, aber wenn Politiker aus den eigenen Reihen sexistische Äußerungen wie „Frauen sind das Fundament der Familie“, „Ja zu Familien statt Gender-Wahnsinn“ oder „Der Mann muss die Frau zum Ding herabsetzen“ von sich geben, wird das nicht so streng genommen. Die FPÖ hat auch nie einen Hehl daraus gemacht, gegen die Bestrafung von Po-Grapschen zu sein und Abtreibungen zu verurteilen. Agenden die man genau so bei fundamentalistischen Muslimen vorfindet. Die FPÖ verkörpert ein rückständiges Frauenbild, die Frau als Mutter und Hausfrau. Aber auch die Frau als Sexobjekt. Ein Flyer des burgenländischen Rings freiheitlicher Jugendzeigt eine Frau mit nacktem Oberkörper, die mit ihren Händen ihre Brüste verdeckt – dazu geschrieben steht „echte Frauen sehen so aus“. Ob blonde, blauäugige Frauen in Bikini oder in Dirndl – die FPÖ verkörpert ein zutiefst sexistisches Frauenbild. Sie tut es nur nicht immer so offensichtlich wie fundamentalistische Muslime.
Eine Burka fällt da natürlich mehr auf, sie schreit förmlich „Unterdrückung“ – da ist sich die progressive Gesellschaft einig. Das misogyne Frauenbild der Populisten dagegen ist nicht für alle so leicht zu durchschauen, es versteckt sich hinter „wir wollen für unsere Frauen nur das Beste“ – Phrasen und Stimmungsmache gegen „übergriffige Ausländer“. Eine muslimische Freundin nannte diese Taktik einmal „den durchsichtigen Schleier“, den die Rechten „ihren“ Frauen auferlegen. Eigentlich wollen sie das alte Frauenbild zurück, aber sobald es um Muslime geht, geben sie sich als die Fortschrittlichen, die den Islam für seine Geschlechterrollen verurteilen. Mitten in alldem sind wir Frauen, die sich nicht nur gläsernen Decken sondern auch noch durchsichtigen Schleiern stellen müssen. Ganz gleich ob bei Rechtspopulisten oder muslimischen Extremisten – das Recht der Frauen ist in den Händen der Männer am falschen Platz.

Sengls Markenzeichen, die Tier-Metapher, wird auch hier wieder genutzt, um Gesellschaftskritik zu üben. Dieses Mal an der Hypokrisie der Rechtspopulisten, die sich für veraltete Rollenbilder aussprechen, aber im selben Atemzug genau diese am Islam kritisieren. Der Schleier als Demaskierung der Doppelmoral also.
